| Heimir Björgúlfsson is an ex-member of the longstanding Icelandic group Stilluppsteypa and Jonas Ohlsson is a reknowned visual artist, both based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Fur Your Bears Only is their second collaboration after the Unspoken Word Tour album in the Brombron series released by Staalplaat and Extrapool. Fur Your Bears Only is the most melodic and poppy music ever to have come out of Björgúlfsson & Ohlsson, providing 8 tracks that show how disco & house can get distorted once in the hands of these two gentlemen. From the epic opening 10-minute title track onwards this work is full of abstract dancefloor sympathies. Recorded in Amsterdam, Xiamen, Los Angeles and Reykjavik, Fur Your Bears Only is the best example of how good a hybrid between classic dance music and abstract experimentalism can be. With beautiful collage artwork made by the two musicians themselves. |

| "Mister Bjorgulfsson is of course mostly known as one of the Stilluppsteypa boys - Iceland's underground lover boys, in exile in Europe. They all have their solo projects, and while I haven't heard the others, Heimir's work is closely related to that of the group. He takes whatever recording, I hear through the grapevine that on this CD there are environmental recordings from Iceland, puts it into his laptop and then the sounds are transformed in what I could call the "usual" fashion. High end sounds, deep end bass, crackles like old vinyl. It seems like I'm not enthusiastic, but this is actually a very nice CD. There are lots of small details, the tracks are relatively short and do not drag on and there is tension and suspense throughout. Very nice stuff." [FdW - Vital Weekly 253] |
