A 61-minute long spacious and contemplative piece of ambient music that Eno recorded to take advantage of the extended length of the CD format. In many respects, the sixty-one minute Thursday Afternoon rolled the entire Ambient Series into one. Eno returned to the tape-loop process music that spawned Discreet Music and Music For Airports.

There is an icy elegance to this album, from the piano of Cornered to the cool jazz of Out/Out through to the arctic chill of Hazard and Back Clack. Imagine Miles Davies, Massive Attack and Anton Webern spliced together in a bizarre cloning experiment and you might be getting close. Recorded at Brian's London studios.
The Drop is another in a long line of Eno albums, stretching back to Another Green World, that sound like they've come from a different world. In the case of The Drop, that was the intention all along. As Brian said at the time, "The Drop is as if you had explained jazz to someone from a distant planet without ever playing them any examples and from that they tried to do some on the basis of your rather scant explanation. I really don't want to do something that's well covered by a lot of other people. My pleasure and pride is in discovering new places for music to go."

The Wire "Unquestionably [Eno's] funkiest project since My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts...a landmark in post-rock dance music."
"I have always liked the cusp where something feels it's familiar but strange at the same time. You listen to it and it doesn't immediately assault you as being completely weird, you feel seduced by it, but at the same time you can't put your finger on what it is that you recognize. It's a very good feeling and I'm very pleased when I achieve it in someone else as well." - Brian Eno
