Peter Smeekens is the Belgian sound designer behind Formatt. "edito" brings to front a body of work based in fragments and loops of all sorts that "kind of grew on itself to make the record", as the author said to Grain of Sound. Formatt reconstructs those tiny pieces into more or less coherent tracks, seeking some kind of "gritty", deep feeling, through a very austere way. Suggestion: listen to it at low volume, paying much of attention to all the details that won't give themselves away at first listen. Has anyone said "headphone music"?... Smeekens lives in Turnhout, a small city near Antwerp.
