This album is the result of a collaborative performance broadcast live on KUCI 89.9, Orange County, California, June 20 1997. The performance was arranged at short notice, and structured so as to be largely improvisational. While musical fads and fashions all too often dictate form and function, neither Lustmord nor Metal Beast desire to be constrained by definitions, and as such the results are a powerful, collision of noise and rhythm, with no quarter given to compromise. "We leave imitation to others. The cautious need not apply." Shad T. Scott (Metal Beast) is the programmer for producer Glenn Ballard. He has worked on albums by numerous artists, with Aerosmith, Terrence Trent Derby and Alanis Morrissette being only recent examples. He is owner of the label Isophlux based in Los Angeles, has recorded a series of challenging idm ("Intelligent Dance Music") releases, and is currently doing remix work for the Sneaker Pimps. Brian Williams has been recording under the name Lustmord since 1980, and this is his tenth album release. He is the owner/manager of Side Effects and as Music Sound Designer for Graeme Revell has provided sound for two dozen movies, including, Strange Days, From Dusk To Dawn, The Craft and Spawn as well as additional music for both The Crow movies. |

| "Superficial Depth is a new name chosen by Uwe Schmidt, who we of course know as the busiest bee buzzing around with Lassigue Benthaus, Atom Heart, Lisa Carbon Trio and many more. His discography grew skyhigh in only a few years. Recentely he moved to Chile, but I doubt that he is cut off from doing exciting music. In a way this new side project is just too perfect: the music, one long track of just under 70 minutes, seems like suited very well for a release on a label such as Side Effects. If ever Side Effects needed a perfect example of what the label stands for, Superficial Depth is it. Waving tones of synths and samples (no melody heard however) of superb dark ambience, rumbling of percussive sounds in the background, anything that is not static but constantely shifting in tone and colour makes this a perfect listening when you turn off all your lights at night. Dark ambient indeed." * Frans De Waard (Vital Weekly) |

Side Effects is proud to announce the first new full length release by Daniel Menche since "Static Burn" (Soleilmoon), which came out more than two years ago. The time spent developing and focusing the sound of "Screaming Caress" has been well spent, as is immediately evident in the meticulous and detailed subtlety of this new work.
"Screaming Caress" was created from somatic (meaning pertaining to the body) sounds that were fashioned from the use and abuse of the body, particularly the skin, larynx, chest, lungs, heart and fist. Additional sounds came from the use and abuse of microphones, stones, sand, salt, distortion boxes, wood, bamboo, crude electronics, bells and chimes. It is the music of dreams, nightmares and visions. It's power reaches into both the physical and mental, evoking concealed emotions and hidden memories that are perhaps best forgotten. Every person who hears Daniel Menche's music will experience it in an individual and personal way. This is not the music of masses, it's the sound of the soul, a carefully crafted work who's complex intricacy reveals itself layer by layer over repeated listening, as only the very best recordings can. |

Ashita: "Tomorrow" in Japanese Subject/Concept: The implications and future prospects of the science known as 'Nanotechnology' and specifically its effect on the human psychological condition. In searching for a way to miniaturize science and its tools we will be encouraged to look ever further inward to confront the seed of our perception of Mind/Thought and the very encoding of our existence. Soon by the careful insertion of a nanoprobe into the cranial vessel., we should be able to eradicate psychological illnesses, and inevitably create new ones... Lagowski provides a slow zoom into his latest material in order that the listener might discover worlds within the borders of sound which have previously laid unheard. Each micro-scape displays the textures of the infinite world. The textures rendered in these recordings are such that no two listening will be perceived in the same light. |
